Hi!

I’ve been a lifelong reader, a lover of big fictional worlds, and someone who is always happiest when I have a question, story, or small project to follow.

In 2019, I started writing down everything I read and watched each month, mostly to keep track. What surprised me was how much I found in looking back: a line from a novel or a scene from a show would resurface in my own life months later, often when I least expected it.

Reflecting on stories turned out to be almost as meaningful as experiencing them.

Reading, Watching, Etc. is where I do that reflecting out loud.

I’m a husband, dad, lifelong reader, and enthusiastic beginner at more things than I have time for. When I’m not reading or watching something, I’m usually down a rabbit hole, going for a long walk, trying to get a little better at a hobby, or figuring out the next small project worth making room for.

It is about stories, curiosity, and the practiced art of making adulthood more interesting. You’ll find notes here on books, movies, television, ideas, rabbit holes, and the side quests that make life outside work feel fuller.

• Curiosity and Rabbit Holes: Notes on science, history, storytelling, and whatever question has followed me home from a walk

• The Practiced Life: Occasional reflections on learning, training, hobbies, making things, and finding room for worthwhile pursuits alongside work and responsibilities.

Why "Reading, Watching, Etc."?
The name comes from that original monthly habit: looking back at what I had read and watched, and asking what stayed with me.

The “Etc.” is intentional. Stories have a way of connecting to everything else, and I try to follow those threads wherever they go.

This is not a productivity manual, a culture-war feed, or a place for forced lessons from fictional characters. I’m not here to optimize every part of life. I’m here to pay better attention to the things that make it larger.
